Do-Type Learning Activities

“We have eyes, and we're looking at stuff all the time, all day long. And I just think that whatever our eyes touch should be beautiful, tasteful, appealing, and important." (Eric Carle)

After watching the video 1st Grade students should be able to cut, color, and create a caterpillar of their own. Each student will create their caterpillar based on what they have heard and viewed in the video. The caterpillar does not have to look the same as the one in the video. The goal of this Do-Type activity is to see how creative each student can be when they create their caterpillar.

*What do you know?
The learner knows that students are able to view the video, ask questions, cut, color, and create their own version of a caterpillar to be displayed in the classroom.

*What do you want to know?
The learner wants to know how many students can view the video and with little to no help from their teacher cut, color, and create a caterpillar.

*What are you trying to measure, determine, or define?
The learner is trying to determine how many students in the class can effectively watch a video, then receive directions, and construct a caterpillar based on those directions.

*How will you collect and record information?
The learner will collect information visually. The students will be given a grade once the caterpillar is completed. The caterpillar will be the information that is collected.

*How will you report the information you collect?
The information collected will be reported in the grade book. Each student as long as they try and show some effort will be given a passing grade.

*Are all interested groups included in planning and conducting the needs assessment?
All groups are included in the planning and conducting.
